Spiritual Play

What is “Imaginative Spiritual Play”?

Pretending to be Peter Pan, Cinderella, Mom or Dad, children try a new life on for size. For a moment, they fly. They find a way, against all odds, to sneak out to the ball. They get to boss someone around for a while. Through play, the act of living life in the imagination, a child discovers experiences some worth keeping as part of their everyday selves, and others, not as fun as they look. “Just playing” may be the building of a person.

When children engage with the life of the church and the stories of the scriptures through this kind ofimaginative play, they do no less than take their very first steps into faith. A two year old offers you a cup of “Jesus”. A 4 year old baptizes her stuffed animals. A seven year old stands up to giants as David. For a moment, they walk in the shoes of the saints. They try on the life of belief...and perhaps they discover God.

So Beulah Enterprises takes “just playing” very seriously. We choose and design products not to be Christian alternatives to the secular toy market, but specifically to encourage open-ended, imaginative play with the stories and symbols of the Christian faith. There are innumerable resources on the market designed for the didactic instruction of children in religion. There are very few that help your children meet God through storytelling and play. We hope to offer the best of these, even if we have to make them ourselves.
